What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a talk-based therapy that supports individuals in improving their mental and emotional health. How will I know that you are a good fit to support me?

Choosing to begin psychotherapy with a qualified therapist is a significant and deeply personal decision. Understandably, you may have many factors to consider. Reflecting on your specific concerns, understanding evidence-based practices that can effectively address those issues, and ensuring that the therapist has the right experience and training are all important steps in this journey.

Equally, feeling comfortable and safe with your therapist is essential to your healing process. Each person brings their unique experiences to therapy, and it's these shared moments that can create a meaningful connection between you and your therapist.

To help you explore whether we might be a good fit for each other, we offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. This time allows us to discuss your questions and thoughts, providing a supportive space for you to consider your options. We are here to support you on this journey and help you find the right path toward healing and growth.

What types of concerns can be addressed in therapy?

In our practices, we support individuals dealing with life/career transitions, grief and loss, trauma, personal relationship concerns, and substance use.

How many sessions will I need?

Although there is no prescribed number of sessions, each person’s experience of therapy will be different and may require varying numbers of sessions. An ideal number of sessions for ongoing therapy could fall anywhere between 15-20 sessions.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I understand that costs can be a concern. I offer a sliding scale to help some clients. However, I can only provide this option to a limited number of clients each year. I'm here to work with you to find a solution that fits your needs.

Is the fee for Psychotherapy covered by OHIP or Insurance?

While psychotherapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario, they are unfortunately not covered under OHIP or ODSP.

The majority of extended health benefits from your employer, however, do cover psychotherapy services. I encourage you to speak to your insurance provider to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage provided by a Registered Psychotherapist.

You will receive a receipt upon payment (by credit card). All of the information you will need to submit your claim is on the receipt.
