What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a talk-based therapy that supports individuals in improving their mental and emotional health. Choosing to begin psychotherapy with a qualified therapist is a significant and deeply personal decision. Understandably, you may have many factors to consider. Reflecting on your specific concerns, understanding evidence-based practices that can effectively address those issues, and ensuring that the therapist has the right experience and training are all important steps in this journey.
Equally, feeling comfortable and safe with your therapist is essential to your healing process. Each person brings their unique experiences to therapy, and it’s these shared moments that can create a meaningful connection between you and your therapist.
To help you explore whether we might be a good fit for each other, we offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. This time allows us to discuss your questions and thoughts, providing a supportive space for you to consider your options. We are here to support you on this journey and help you find the right path toward healing and growth.

In our practice, we provide comprehensive support for individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including life and career transitions, stress management, mood disorders, grief and loss, trauma recovery, family dysfunction, relationship concerns, and substance use issues. Our goal is to foster healing, resilience, and personal growth through tailored therapeutic approaches.

Although there is no prescribed number of sessions, each person’s experience of therapy will be different and may require varying numbers of sessions. An ideal number of sessions for ongoing therapy could fall anywhere between 15-20 sessions.

We fully acknowledge that financial considerations can be a significant concern, and we are committed to providing assistance. We are pleased to offer a sliding scale option for a limited number of clients each year. Together, we can explore tailored solutions that meet your needs and ensure you receive the support you deserve. Let us work collaboratively to identify the most appropriate fit for you.

While psychotherapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario, they are unfortunately not covered under OHIP or ODSP.

The majority of extended health benefits from your employer, however, do cover psychotherapy services. We encourage you to speak to your insurance provider to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage provided by a Registered Psychotherapist.

You will receive a receipt upon payment (by credit card). All of the information you will need to submit your claim is on the receipt.

Life can be unpredictable, and plans sometimes change. To help us manage schedules effectively, please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If circumstances prevent you from providing this notice, such as cancelling less than 24 hours in advance or being unable to attend, I will unfortunately need to charge the full session fee. I greatly appreciate your understanding. Please don’t hesitate to reach out by phone or email if you need help with your appointment. I appreciate your consideration!
